These Regulations implement the provisions of article 14 of the AISU Articles of Association (hereinafter the Articles of Association).


In observance of the provisions of article 14 of the Articles of Association, these Regulations govern the candidacy and election procedures for the formation of the following governing bodies of AISU (see art. 10 of the Articles of Association):

  1. the Chairman
  2. the Board of Directors
  3. the Board of Auditors

ARTICLE 1 - Voting terms and procedures
Voting shall take place during the ordinary General Assembly of the year preceding the start of the mandate of the new Governing Bodies. The date of the elections is decided by the Board of Directors in office and shall be announced to the Members and published on the AISU website at least 120 days before they take place.
Candidates who obtain a relative majority of votes are elected (art. 14 of the Articles of Association). In the event of a tie, the candidate with the longest membership of the Association is proclaimed elected; in the event of a tie between senior members, the oldest member is proclaimed elected.
For the elections of the Management Bodies of the AISU voting by proxy is not allowed.
All Members who have paid their subscriptions for the year in which the elections are held and for the two previous years are entitled to vote.

ARTICLE 2 - Candidacy
Members who are competent in the field of urban history, as defined in article 2 of the Articles of Association, and who have paid their subscriptions for the year in which the voting takes place and for the two previous years, may stand as candidates for the office of Chairman or for the Governing Bodies of AISU.
Nominations must be sent to the Chairman in office within 60 days of the date of publication of the notification of the elections for the Governing Bodies of AISU on the website. The nominations shall indicate the academic disciplinary scientific sector for Italian Members and the ERC sector for foreign Members, where present, or specify the expertise in other sectors, and the seat of affiliation.
The Chairman in office shall register the nominations for the offices of Chairman, members of the Board of Directors and Auditors on the basis of a proposal from the outgoing Board and the nominations endorsed by at least 20 members for the office of Chairman and seven members for the other offices. Endorsing members must have paid their subscriptions for the year in which the elections are held and for the two previous years.
Each AISU member may support one nomination for the office of Chairman.
Each member may endorse a maximum of three candidates for the Board of Directors and two for the Board of Auditors.

ARTICLE 3 - Election of the Chairman
The Board of Directors in office shall approve the list of candidates for the office of Chairman of the AISU for the following four-year period within 90 days of the publication of the notification of the elections on the AISU website, after verifying compliance with the provisions of article 15 of the Articles of Association and article 2, paragraph 1, of these Regulations.
Each voting member may express only one preference (see article 14 of the Articles of Association).
The candidate who obtains a relative majority of votes (see article 14 of the Articles of Association) shall be elected Chairman of the AISU for the four-year period following the year in which the voting takes place.

ARTICLE 4 - Election of the Board of Directors
When approving the date of the elections of the Governing Bodies of the AISU for the following four-year period, the Board of Directors in office shall approve the number of members of the future Board of Directors (see article 12 of the Articles of Association), taking into account the number of AISU Members registered in the year preceding the year in which the elections take place.
The Board of Directors in office shall approve the list of candidates for the Board of Directors of the AISU for the following four-year period within 90 days of the publication of the notification of the elections on the AISU website, after verifying compliance with the provisions of article 15 of the Articles of Association and article 2, paragraph 1, of these Regulations.
Each voting member may express a maximum of three preferences (see article 14 of the Articles of Association). In the event of a multiple vote (two or three preferences), at least one preference of a different gender must be expressed, and the votes cast must be differentiated with reference to the scientific disciplinary sectors or ERCs or expertise in sectors other than the university sector and with reference to the seats of affiliation (see article 2 of these Regulations). If these criteria are not met, the ballot paper will be invalidated.

ARTICLE 5 - Election of the Board of Auditors
The Board of Directors in office shall approve the list of candidates for the Board of Auditors of the AISU within 90 days of the publication of the notification of the elections on the AISU website, after verifying compliance with the provisions of article 15 of the Articles of Association and article 2, paragraph 1, of these Regulations.
Each voting member may express a maximum of two preferences (see article 14 of the Articles of Association). In the event of a multiple vote (two preferences), a preference of a different gender must be expressed, and the votes cast must be differentiated with reference to the scientific disciplinary sectors or ERCs or expertise in sectors other than the university sector and with reference to the seats of affiliation (see article 2 of these Regulations). If these criteria are not met, the ballot paper will be invalidated.
The first three candidates who obtain the highest number of votes are elected as full members of the AISU Board of Auditors for the four-year period following the year in which the voting takes place. The fourth and fifth candidates in the order of the votes obtained shall be elected as alternate members of the AISU Board of Auditors for the following four-year period (article 20 of the Articles of Association).

ARTICLE 6 - Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is appointed by the Board of Directors in office, within 90 days of the publication of the announcement of the elections on the AISU website.

The Electoral Commission is made up of three members, guaranteeing gender representation, at least two of whom do not belong to the Governing Bodies currently in office. Members of the Electoral Commission must have paid their subscriptions for the year in which the elections are held and for the two previous years.
If one of the members of the Electoral Commission resigns, the Board of Directors currently in office shall replace him/her.
The members of the Electoral Commission shall appoint a Chairman internally.
The Electoral Commission is responsible for monitoring the correct implementation of the voting operations and for publishing the results of the elections, communicating them to all Members and publishing them on the AISU website.

ARTICLE 7 - Disputes
Any dispute relating to the voting process and the counting of votes shall be discussed by the outgoing Board of Directors, which shall make the necessary decisions with the unanimous approval of its members.

ARTICLE 8 - Amendments to the Regulations
Any amendment to these Regulations may be proposed by the Board of Directors or by a minimum of 10 Members and shall be approved by the first useful General Assembly.
